This taxidermy horse hoof inkwell is a sentimental piece made in memory of a horse named Bounce, who passed away on April 29th, 1852, at the age of 30. The hoof is mounted with sterling silver, hallmarked for James Barber of York, 1852. The top of the lid features a family crest. The inkwell retains its original liner. The inside of the lid is inscribed with the following text:
BOUNCE,
DIED APRIL 29TH 1852.
AGED 30.
This inkwell serves as a beautiful tribute to Bounce and a nice example of Victorian-era taxidermy and silverwork.
