This English sterling silver standish from the mid-19th century includes two glass inkwells with ornate silver lids and mounts, a taper stick for holding a candle or wax taper, and a snuffer for extinguishing the flame. The snuffer hangs from an arm attached to the taper stick. The base of the standish is elaborately designed with raised edges and intricate patterns. Each piece is hallmarked for Henry Wilkinson, a renowned silversmith from Sheffield, and dated 1852.
