This sterling silver inkstand’s hallmark indicates it was made in London in 1893. The hinged silver lid is monogrammed, though the monogram is not decipherable. The base of the inkstand is inscribed with the phrase “the silver link.” The decoration on the silver appears to be repousse, a technique where the metal is shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief. The glass inkwell has a stem that fits into the round silver base, which is elaborately decorated with floral and scroll motifs.
