Overview

This Capstan-style sterling silver inkwell features an intricate, pierced outer rim and finely detailed repoussé work. Assayed in London, 1903, the inkwell retains its original clear blown glass insert and stands on a weighted base.

  • Features a central, flat circular medallion engraved with a detailed heraldic crest/armorial motif depicting a winged figure atop a castle tower or turreted structure on a torse wreath.
  • The top of the lid is framed by heavy gadrooned/fluted channels extending radially toward a finely die-stamped beaded and egg-and-dart motif border.
  • Hinged with a silver piano hinge that opens to reveal the interior lid underside and clear glass insert.
• The Base & Decorative Rim:
  • Sweeping, polished Capstan-form body stamped with clear British hallmarks on the sloped waist.
  • The wide, flared outer base is decorated with an ornate pierced geometric fretwork pattern.
  • Adorned with 6 relief-molded Tudor Rose medallions alternating with 6 fluted shell motifs.
• Interior & Underside:
  • Includes its original, removable cylindrical clear blown glass insert.
