Manufacturer Comyns, William
Origin England
Date or Era circa 1899
Measuring 3 ¾” diameter; 2 ⅜” high

This sterling silver and glass inkwell features a sterling silver lid extending into an elongated collar with intricate scrollwork and floral patterns. The glass base is ribbed, adding a textured elegance to the piece, although much of it is covered by the ornate silver overlay.

The hallmark indicates that the inkwell was made in London in 1899 by William Comyns, a well-known silversmith celebrated for his high-quality silverware. An inscription of “Sermonda 1899” on the lid suggests that this piece might have been a commemorative item, possibly given as a gift or award.
