This silverplated standish, crafted by Philip Ashberry & Sons of Sheffield, England, is rectangular and footed. At its center, there is an elevated candleholder, flanked by two glass inkwells with hinged silverplated lids. The front and back of the standish are equipped with pen holders, designed to hold multiple pens. The underside is inscribed with the maker’s name and “Brittannia”.
Note: this inkstand dates to between 1856 and 1900. The “& Sons” was added to the name in 1856, with the firm becoming “Ltd” in1900.
