Manufacturer Garrard & Co.
Origin England
Date or Era circa 1890
Measuring 3” diameter base; 6 ½” high

The vertical frame holds the coiled red wax taper which is threaded through the hole in the top. It has a nice simple flared and stepped base and shaped handle. Wax jacks were used for sealing letters or documents, lighting for when writing, and as portable lamps. The base is clearly marked with the makers name Garrard & Co Ltd, the prestigious London retailers who later joined with Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Ltd. This piece is missing its snuffer which would have been hooked to the side.
