Description of the Inkstand

  • Base and Tray: The inkstand sits on a silver-plated tray with a distinctive, slightly curved, and scalloped shape. It has two large handles, one on each end, and rests on four spherical or “bun” feet. The top surface of the tray has recessed areas for holding the ink bottles. There are two long, recessed channels for holding pens.
  • Inkwells: The inkstand holds two square-shaped inkwells made of cut glass. The glass is clear and shows a polished, faceted design.
  • Lids: Each glass inkwell is topped with a hinged, dome-shaped lid made of a silver-colored metal.
