The Wilmott Manufacturing Company made this inkstand. The base, made of marble, has a pen channel. The two cylindrical inkwells feature a unique spring-loaded, roll-back dome cover mechanism. This design allows the covers to recede smoothly into the inkwells when the tab is pushed and glide back into place when pulled. The silver parts are hallmarked with the Birmingham assay office mark, the lion silver mark, and the date letter “S” indicating the year 1917.
