This silver inkstand is marked “FIENSEN,” indicating it was crafted by the German silversmith Carl Fiensen, likely in the late 19th or early 20th century. The inkstand features a symmetrical design resting on four spherical feet. A polished silver tray forms the base, with a slightly undulating or shaped outline. A central silver bowl could hold nibs or wax seals. Extending from a central post are two curved silver arms which form a pen holder.
The inkstand is designed to hold two inkwells, which are positioned on either side of the central post. Each inkwell has a multi-faceted, hexagonal glass body. The glass of both inkwells is decorated with hand-painted floral motifs. These delicate designs feature stylized flowers and foliage in shades of brown.
