This sterling silver inkstand features a Jadeite panel in the front. Two Jadeite lids with hinges cover the inkwells. The center storage compartment is covered with a hinged rose quartz lid. Around the lids is a heavy repoussé of flowers. Intricate metal work on the sides features ornate floral patterns with flowers and leaves. The piece is signed on the bottom “Edward I. Farmer / New York / Sterling”.
Edward I. Farmer (1872 – 1942), an antique dealer and collector of Chinese jades and porcelains, operated an art gallery in New York, NY.
