Featured in three of Shakespeare’s plays as primarily a comic figure, Falstaff, a fat, vain, and boastful knight, spends most of this time drinking with petty criminals, living on stolen or borrowed money, this is a classic pose. Falstaff, wearing a feathered hat, holds a goblet aloft making a toast. He clutches his sword in the other hand. Hinged at the neck, his head opens to access the inkwell.
