This French Napoleon III era kiln-fired enamel inkstand with tray and pen holder was made by village artisans working in the decorative arts community surrounding the old Sevres porcelain works. An arduous process, the emulsions were painted on copper plaques and went through numerous kiln firings to achieve the finished product with its jeweled raised dots of thick enamel. The inkstand features a Doré bronze frame. The predominant color of the enamel is blue, adorned with intricate floral patterns and gold accents. TAHAN, a luxury good purveyor, commonly sold enameled pieces such as this inkstand.
