This bronze figural inkstand is part of the Museum of Art’s (NYC) collection of European metalwork. Seated satyr with long ears, seated on a tree stump, legs uncrossed. He has a pair of spiraling horns on his head and holds a gadrooned receptacle for ink (adorned with a grotesque face) in his right hand and a socket for a candle in his left. His eyes are wide open, and his teeth grimaced. The satyr sits on a hollow stump, with slots to hold quills.
