The square holder for this arts & crafts inkwell has four turned rivet bracket brass cornices. The paneled copper body is decorated with stylized Arts and Crafts decorations. The cover of the beveled glass inkwell has a multicolor enamel plaque underneath the copper decoration of a flower.
The little panels are engraved with music notes and in the Italian language the words; “Arte, l’Idea, La Fiducia, La Forra and Gloria”. It means; Art, Glories, Trust, Strength and Creation. It is also dated on the inside with: ‘Luglio, 1909’. This is probably all done by the musical owner.
The inkwell is signed with the monogram ‘A.G.’ by the artist. This inkwell is an example of the Arts and Crafts, and was probably made in Glasgow, Scotland (Glasgow school).
