The Red Top Rye Woman stands next to a whiskey barrel that reads “Red Top Rye”. She lifts her skirt to show her knee – risqué for the early 1900’s. The barrel (inkwell) is missing its lid and an insert. White metal casting with bronze finish.
“Red Top Rye” was available in taverns and bars throughout the United States, even offered as a primary whiskey on Pullman cars. Red Top Rye was featured in the St Louis World’s Fair in 1904.
Also shown is an inkwell in the form of a barrel only.
Also shown is an example with the woman and the barrel with the inkwell’s lid (still no insert). This third example was marketed on eBay as a match holder, but it looks like an inkwell to me.
Sold for $367 in September 2023
Barrel only sold for $62 in November 2023
The inkstand marketed as a match holder sold for $2,276 (!) in November 2023
