Prisoner Inkstand – Folk Art

Categories Figural - Persons
Material Wood
Origin United States
Date or Era circa 1920
Measuring 6 ½” x 4” x 4 ½” high

A hand-carved wooden prisoner, in traditional prison garb of black and white horizontal stripes, wears a ball & chain. He sits on a rock, sledgehammer in hand, next to an ink bottle – even the bottle has prison bars painted on it. There’s a pen holder at the other end. In the front is a handwritten plaque which asks, “Why Did I Do It?” A nice piece of folk art – one-of-a-kind.

Estimated value: $200
