This inkstand features two porcelain figures – a mother and her daughter. The mother holds up an object (a picture frame? a mirror?) that frames the child’s face. The piece was crafted with amazing detail – note the beading, ruffles, lace, patterns on the clothing. The top lifts off to access the ink pot and sander underneath. Conta Boehme (Germany) made this inkstand.
A smaller, less detailed version of this inkstand was produced in Occupied Japan (1947-1952) and is also pictured here.
Estimated value:
German version: $150 – $175
Occupied Japan: $50
