Two cut glass hinged inkwells on this inkstand rest on a silverplated base with stags’ heads at either end. The hallmark on the bottom shows Walker & Hall made this piece (numbered 553). The inkstand is inscribed with the following:

“Presented to James Boyne on the occasion of his relinquishing management of the Whiskey Distillery Skye by a few of his friends and well-wishers, 30 November 1884”
