This inkwell features Pierrot, a character from the commedia dell’arte, kneeling and playing a mandolin. The figure is dressed in a traditional Pierrot costume with large buttons and a ruffled collar. The base of the inkwell is designed to resemble a cushion with a red and gold swirling pattern with gold trim. There are pen holes at each of the four corners.

The piece is marked in several places with “B. & Cie, Limoges, France” – the mark for Bernardaud & Cie (Compagnie = Company). Hand-painted by the mark “ALADIN LUXE” and “MADE IN FRANCE”.

Sold for $183 in September 2024
