Lovely Austrian bronze inkstand featuring a Pierrot (Commedia dell’arte) figure holding a mandolin. He has a carved with ivory face. It is part of set that includes a rolling blotter, also with a figural ivory faced Pierrot. The set looks very much like bronze figures and inkstands made by Peter Tereszczuk, an Austrian-Hungarian sculptor who created most of his work in Vienna, Austria. He is well known for bronze figurals with delicate ivory faces such as this one. However, this set is not marked so I can’t be sure of the maker.
The inkstand includes a ceramic or porcelain insert; I am not sure it is original as I believe the original may have been glass.
It dates to the early part of the 20th century.
