Made by Perry & Co., this inkstand features a white ceramic cylinder reservoir with a decorated “beak” opening for dipping the pen. The cylinder reservoir is held in a brass frame. The frame is marked with three ostrich plumes (Prince of Wales) and is stamped “Patent Perryian Gravitating Inkstand, Perry & Co London”. The shell shaped saucer in the front is notched to make a pen rest. There is another pen rest in the rear. The cylinder rolls open for use, and then rolls up to close the opening to preserve the ink. Above the turn knob on each side, the piece is marked “Patent” and shows the coat of arms of the United Kingdom.
