This is an ornate inkstand, French in origin and dating to the late 19th century, in the style of Palais Royal. It is constructed primarily of gilt bronze and features a tiered design. The base is square with a raised and elaborately pierced border. Set within this pierced framework are panels of deep blue glass.

Rising from the center of the base is the inkwell compartment. This is also square and features a similar construction to the base, with a pierced gilt bronze framework enclosing panels of the same deep blue glass. The inkwell has a hinged lid, also made of gilt bronze. To the rear of the inkwell is an integrated pen holder. This is formed by an elaborately scrolling and pierced gilt bronze structure.
