This inkstand features a Native American Indian chief adorned with earrings and a bear claw necklace. The headdress is hinged, allowing it to open to access the ink.  There is an area in front for resting pens or other writing tools. The back of the inkstand is embossed with three arches and a snake. Two versions are pictured – (1) painted white metal and (2) bronze. The depiction of a Native American chief reflects the fascination with indigenous cultures during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Attributed to the H. L. Judd Company, there were other desk items made including a letter holder, pen tray, letter clip, rocker blotter, and letter opener.

Painted white metal sold for $311 in February 2024

Bronze sold for $475 in October 2024
