No marks are found on the piece to give a clue to it origin. The material is Bakelite. Bakelite is a synthetic plastic that was invented in 1907 by Leo Baekeland, A Belgian-born scientist. The inkpots have caps that just lift off. The inkpots fit nicely in the inkstand with pen tray and the imitation marble look is very attractive. I would classify this as being an art deco. The size, material, and price paid are from the owner’s record card.
From the collection of Tom Gombar.
Purchased in November of 1976 for $38.00
