This inkstand comes from the Minghetti ceramics manufactory in Bologna, Italy. It is made of polychrome majolica, a type of tin-glazed pottery known for its vibrant colors and intricate designs. The inkstand has a rectangular base with two lidded inkwells. There is a shallow well between them for nibs, etc. The body of the inkstand is adorned with hand-painted scenes and patterns in various colors, including blue, yellow, green, and white. The base has ornate paw feet. The underside bears the Minghetti mark.
Maker: Angelo Minghetti (1822–1885) was a renowned Italian ceramist and painter of majolica pieces. He established a factory in Bologna to produce majolica, which was continued by his sons and later his grandson.
