A sterling silver mounted taxidermy hoof of a war horse involved in the Anglo-Egyptian War of 1882. The hoof has been converted to an inkwell with both the upper mounting and horseshoe in hallmarked (Army & Navy Cooperative Society Ltd., London, 1892). The horse survived the war and retired to Cyprus where he died ten years later in 1892.

The engraving on the lid of the inkwell reads:

“CIGARETTE” DIED IN CYPRUS after the Egyptian Campaign 1882″

Sold for $690 in August 2024
