This inkstand is believed to honor Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher (1742 – 1819) – the leading General in the Battle of the Nations in 1813. He rose to the rank of Field Marshal in the Prussian Army and was – in alliance with the Duke of Wellington – the leading General in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 (hence the 1815 date on the inkstand), defeating Napoleon.
