Two monkeys are crouching on top of a pineapple which rests on a fixed, brown-glazed oval base. The top lifts off to access two inkwells. The bottom is marked with the date code, shape number 1703, the letters U & D, and “Minton”. The piece has damage (and poor repair) to the face of one of the monkeys. There is damage to the base and inkwell inserts.
The last picture shows this inkstand repaired to perfect condition.
The restored piece sold for $5000 at Sotheby’s in October 2010.
