Manufacturer Black Starr & Frost
Origin United States
Date or Era circa 1890
Measuring Center Diameter: 3 ½”; 2 ⅞” high

The main body of the inkwell is made from lead crystal, evident in its clarity, brilliance, and likely its substantial weight. The crystal is beautifully cut with intricate patterns, catching and refracting light. It features a combination of facets, flutes, or starburst designs typical of fine lead crystal of the period. The shape of the crystal body is somewhat oval in form with substantial depth.

The inkwell is topped with a hinged lid made of sterling silver. The lid features a decorative reeded or beaded border. The center of the silver lid is engraved with an ornate monogram.

The presence of markings “sterling” indicates the silver content of the lid is 92.5% pure silver. The marking “Black, Starr & Frost” identifies the prestigious American jeweler and retailer, known for their high-quality silver and crystal goods, particularly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
