This double inkstand attributed to Kralik exemplifies Art Nouveau design. The inkstand features two iridescent glass inkwells which are stemmed, removeable from the base. The base is made of brass or bronze and is molded to resemble a lily pond, complete with detailed lily pads and flowers. Integrated into the base is a pen holder.
Markings:
- “Geschutzt”: This German word means “protected,” indicating that the design was registered or patented.
- “DGM.A. K.K OEST.PAT. A”:
- DGM stands for Deutsches Gebrauchsmuster, meaning German Registered Design.
- K.K OEST.PAT. refers to kaiserlich-königliche österreichische Patent, meaning Imperial Royal Austrian Patent.
This inkstand was made in Bohemia around 1900, a region known for its high-quality glass production. Kralik was a prominent glass manufacturer in Bohemia, renowned for their innovative designs and techniques.
