This figural inkwell depicts a knight in full amor, complete with a plumed helmet. The visor that protects the knight’s face is hinged and can be pulled down to cover his face. The helmet itself is also hinged and lifts to access the ink pot inside. The breastplate area features floral patterns and heraldic designs. The piece is made of brass plated white metal.
Some have called this figure the “grumpy knight” based on the expression of his face, though perhaps “befuddled” might be more appropriate. Country of origin is unknown. Some say Germany and refer to the knight as “Kaiser Bill”. Others say this inkwell was made in France.
