This bronze hinged inkwell is embossed with a geometric swag pattern and complete with a Davis glass liner.

Jesse M. Preston was a metalsmith from Chicago (born in 1872, died 1962). The Illinois Governor’s Office, in conjunction with a display of her artistry at the residence, issued this biography: Desk Set, c. 1902-05 (illinois.gov)
