This Gouda pottery inkwell features a hand-painted design with a cylindrical inkwell attached to an underplate. The underplate has an organic, leaf-like pattern with colors such as brown, gold, and teal on an off-white background. The piece is marked: “Gouda – Kastanje – Schoonhoven, Holland.” The marking indicates that this inkwell originates from Schoonhoven in Holland and is part of the Gouda pottery style. The name “Kastanje” means chestnut in Dutch, likely referring to the chestnut leaf motif on the plate.
