This glass inkwell has an ornate silver repoussé lid. Repoussé is a technique where the design is hammered into relief from the reverse side. The lid has a bulbous shape and features intricate floral decorations.
The fitting for the lid is marked “Jas. R. Armiger Co. 925/1000”. This indicates that the inkwell was made by the Jas. R. Armiger Company, which was based in Baltimore, Maryland. The company was known for producing high-quality silver items and was active from the late 19th century until around 1970.
The “925/1000” marking signifies the purity of the silver, meaning that the silver is 92.5% pure. This is a standard for sterling silver.
