This is an opulent double inkstand, made from gilt bronze and decorated with inset small turquoise stones. The inkstand is comprised of three distinct, conjoined sections arranged in a symmetrical design. On either side are the two inkwells. Each inkwell has a multi-tiered, hexagonal form. The bronze surfaces are decorated with finely engraved patterns. The defining feature of this inkstand are the numerous small, vibrant turquoise stones that are carefully inset into the bronze. Each inkwell is topped with a hinged lid of a matching design, also adorned with turquoise insets and a pyramidical top.
Positioned between the two inkwells is a central utility box, also constructed from gilt bronze and decorated in the same elaborate manner with engraved patterns and inset turquoise stones. This central compartment also features a hinged lid, and was used to hold writing implements, sealing wax, or other desk accessories.
