Description

This French Art Nouveau gilt bronze inkstand by Albert Marionnet features a high-relief naturalistic blackberry (bramble) motif:

• Form & Composition: Cast in solid bronze with a rich warm golden/gilt patina, the desk stand features an asymmetrical, fluid outline characteristic of the Art Nouveau movement. The piece is raised on four turned footpads underneath.
• Dual Inkwells: Situated on either side of the wide pen trough are two integrated, elevated cylindrical inkwells with hinged lids. Each lid is crowned with a sculpted finial in the shape of a ripening blackberry sitting atop leaves.
• Botanical Detail: Plump blackberry clusters, bramble vines, and finely veined leaves flow along the high back crest, side borders, and across the central pen well.
• Signature: The piece is signed in relief along the front right rim: A. MARIONNET.
