German green and brown glazed ceramic “Evangelists” inkwell, 18th century or earlier. The sides are decorated with images of Saints Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John with their symbols the Angel, the Lion, the Ox, and the Eagle. The front and back depict scholars flanking a cross bearing the letters “B.S.”. The piece has two glazed sanders – one likely a replacement for a missing inkwell.
