This inkstand is made of hallmarked sterling silver. It bears the hallmark of London and is attributed to Samuel Herbert & Co., dating back to 1764. The inkstand features an ornate design with gadrooned borders.

Three distinct cut glass bottles are housed within this inkstand. Each bottle has a specific purpose: one serves as an inkwell, another as a pen holder, and the third as a pounce pot, which was used for sprinkling powder over wet ink to help it dry. The bottles are adorned with silver tops, harmonizing with the stand itself. The silver base is supported by four intricately detailed clawed feet.
