This gemstone inkwell with sterling silver base, mounts, and insert features a carved fluorite gemstone body with a carved amethyst lid. It is marked “Edward I. Farmer / New York”.

Edward Farmer (1872 – 1942), an antique dealer and collector of Chinese jades and porcelains, operated two galleries in New York, specializing in Chinese decorative arts. He was known for his remounting of Chinese gemstones in desk accessories and decorative ornaments.
