This piece has two inkwells with pen wells and is made of brass and porcelain. The porcelain is blue with hand painted gold flowers. The brass top has a hammered texture, with the lids being smooth. The bottom of this piece is marked B. Altman and Made in France with what appears to be two blue ferns crossed. The two small porcelain inkwells complete the piece.
Altman and Company was a luxury department store and chain, founded in 1865 in New York City, New York, by Benjamin Altman.
