This French Chinoiserie inkstand combines a variety of decorative elements. It has a rectangular base made of bronze, with an ornate pierced gallery around the perimeter. The base has a red lacquered surface within the railing. The corners of the base are supported by decorative, paw-shaped, feet.

The inkstand features several distinct components:

  • Porcelain Figure: A prominent porcelain figure is seated on the left side of the base. The figure is wearing elaborate and colorful robes with intricate patterns. The figure has a serene expression and is holding a scroll. The style of the figure, particularly the facial features, the elaborate costuming, and the overall aesthetic, strongly suggests an East Asian origin. The robes have a distinct Chinese aesthetic in their detailing and flow.
  • Covered Inkwell: On the right side of the base is a cylindrical covered inkwell made of porcelain. The inkwell is decorated with a vibrant and detailed design featuring floral motifs in shades of pink, green, and other colors, outlined in gold. The lid of the inkwell is domed, topped with a finial resembling a rat.
  • Metal Tree with Porcelain Flowers: In the background, rising from the base, is a stylized tree or branch made of bronze. Attached to the branches are delicate, porcelain flowers in various colors, including pink, white, and blue.
  • Pen Holder: Along the front edge of the red lacquered base is a pen holder.
