The base is made of metal with a bronze-copper finish and has a “Fount-O-Ink decal on the backside. It has rounded corners and a ribbed design typical of Art Deco. The brown plastic ink receptacle holds a glass ink bottle and has a metal lid. Inscribed on the inside of the metal cover is: “Fount-O-Ink Reg. U.S. Pat. Office, Pat. #10266529 Can. Pat. #360590, Pat’s. Pend., This well and bottle licensed for use with Gregory Ink. Not guaranteed when used with other inks. Gregory Ink Co. Los Angeles – Made in U.S.A.”
The Gregory Ink Co. made inkwells in a variety of styles, some with ornamental figures such as the sailboat pictured here. Other figures featured a horse, dog, airplane, and elephant.
