This inkwell is marked for J.D. Schleissner & Söhne, Hanau, Germany. It features a cut crystal body, square, with deeply etched designs that wrap around its sides. These etchings depict detailed scenes, pastoral landscapes with buildings, trees, and figures.

The lower portion of the inkwell is encased in a decorative base made of “800 Silver,” indicating a silver purity of 800 parts per 1000. This silver base is adorned with a detailed repoussé design, showcasing raised figures (example, a woman and a dog) and ornate scrollwork.

The inkwell is topped with a hinged lid also crafted from silver repoussé. This domed lid features a romantic scene of a man and a woman on a swing, suspended between stylized trees. The figures, dressed in period attire, exude a sense of lighthearted enjoyment. The background of the lid is filled with intricate scrollwork and foliage, characteristic of the repoussé style. The level of detail in the silverwork speaks to the skill of the J.D. Schleissner & Söhne artisans.
