Brass piano-shaped inkwell mounted on a leather covered base. Though stamped and distributed by Asser & Sherwin 81 Strand (London), this piece was likely made in France as the front folds down to reveal the name Erard, a French manufacturer of pianos. There is a button on the side that releases the hinged top to reveal the inkwell and pen tray.

A second example of this inkwell is more ornate – the flower leaf and berry pattern includes semi-precious stones studded into the pattern.

A third example!
