A rare English sterling silver inkstand with raised shell and sweeping vine design. This inkstand with inkwell, sander, and matching chamberstick is from the Royal Silversmith, Robert Garrard II.
The Garrards crafted fine silver for the royal retailers, Parker and Wakelin, even before their 1830 appointment as Royal Silversmiths.
Garrard silver is displayed in:
- Metropolitan Museum of Art,
- The Art Institute of Chicago,
- Virginia Art Institute,
- Museum of Applied Arts and Science,
- RISD,
- Yale University,
- Victoria and Albert and MFA,
- and many more.
It retains both original securing rods to the underside. Fully hallmarked.
