English Brass Equestrian Inkstand

This piece is a classic example of late-Victorian English desk accessories from the height of the horse-racing craze in the late 19th century (circa 1890–1900). Equestrian-themed items—incorporating riding crops, horseshoes, and jockey caps—were immensely popular among the British gentry and racing enthusiasts during this era.

A finely cast solid brass equestrian inkwell capturing the spirit of late 19th-century horse racing. The composition features a realistic jockey cap resting upon crossed riding crops, complete with detailed crown panels, a button top, and a side-knotted band. The hinged cap opens to reveal a removable turquoise-blue opaline glass insert. Rising behind the cap is an adjoined, upright horseshoe serving as a dip pen rack, fitted with projecting nail-head rests.
