A domed shaped sterling silver and enamel inkwell with gemstones. The piece is enameled with flowers and Awabi bats (a symbol of good fortune in Japanese culture). The silver rims are engraved with a serpentine design. The lid is decorated with a finial of gemstones.  The inkwell insert is marked “Sterling”, and the bottom is marked “Edward I. Farmer / New York / Sterling”. Edward I.  Farmer (1872 – 1942), an antique dealer and collector of Chinese jades and porcelains, operated an art gallery in New York, NY.
