This porcelain set consists of a tray with an inkwell, sander, and vase, which feature harbor scenes with ships and merchants along the banks – tiny paintings with deep perspective.
The “A.R.” (Augustus Rex) mark on the tray is a derivative of an early Meissen mark. Helena Wolfsohn had a porcelain decorating business which used a wide array of blanks from other companies. In 1878 Leopold Elb took over the Wolfsohn studio and copied the mark registered by KPM (Königliche Porzellan Manufaktur – Royal Porcelain Factory). KPM appealed for court intervention which forced the studio to stop using the mark in 1883.
