The mythological figure Pan is the god of the wild, shepherds, flocks, hunting, rustic music, and impromptu celebrations. He has the hindquarters, legs, and horns of a goat. Here, he sits between two urn-shaped inkwells embossed with grapes, leaves, and vines, playing his pan flute. There is a pull-out drawer in the center of the base. The inkstand is marked with a crown mark and stamped “MFD & PLATED BY REED & BARTON 125”.
